We’re running Movable Type 3.2 beta 4. Rather than upgrading, I did a fresh installation. It went smoothly, and the upgrade is well worth it. I think I have everything working correctly (danandsherree.com Search, danandsherree.com Notifications, and other stuff I had customized). I haven’t updated the alternate templates yet, though.

Given all the new features, I’m a little surprised that this release is being called 3.2—it could be 3.5 or maybe even 4.0! I haven’t gotten to see the new Junk tools in action yet to say how well they work. Basename control is cool, and works, as this entry shows. I suppose I could mention all the cool new features, but it’s just easier if you try it yourself!

Update: Well, using the modifiable basename capability isn’t as easy as I’d hoped. Because I’ve been using <MTEntryTitle dirify="1" trim_to="20">.php to output the file, it doesn’t easily swap over to the basename method. Anybody know how I could switch? It seems to me I’d need to use mod_rewrite or a redirect with a regular expression, but I didn’t have any luck with it.

Update 2: Thanks to Jay’s instructions, updating the basename ended up not being too difficult! Hooray!

As you all know, over the course of the last few weeks, the team and I have been really, really busy getting Movable Type 3.2 into shape. Part of that job, of course, includes reading feedback that you post on…

So what are the chances that you’ll be updating the alternate templates now that 3.2 has released?

Very good! I’m hoping over the weekend I can get it done.

It’s worth pointing out that my list_blog.tmpl alternate template is unnecessary with 3.2. And the upload file templates will work with 3.2 as-is. Only the edit_entry.tmpl and preview_entry.tmpl files need updating.
